Brazilian veterinarian Alexandra Ariadine was diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, which causes severe skin burns. Alexandra’s story went viral on social media.

Alexandra Ariadine was diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, a rare condition caused by a severe reaction to medication. The Brazilian veterinarian’s story went viral on social media.

On her TikTok profile, Alexandra shared how she identified the symptoms before being hospitalized. She was heading to work in early November when she began feeling discomfort in her eyes and mouth ulcers.

“I went straight to the emergency room, and after several tests, I found out I had a very aggressive and rare allergic reaction,” she explained.

Stevens-Johnson Syndrome affects the skin and mucous membranes, and the symptoms start like a flu, but skin irritation quickly turns into painful rashes and blisters throughout the body.

“The feeling I have is despair because everything hurts, the soles of my feet, my hands, all my skin. I can’t eat, I can’t see well because of this condition that consumes the tissue,” Alexandra confessed.

Alexandra’s husband started a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for his wife’s complex treatment. She has already spent two weeks in the intensive care unit.

“Additionally, her recovery will involve surgeries to treat scars and extensive, specialized rehabilitation so she can regain a good quality of life,” said the veterinarian’s husband.
